A pregnant woman got lost in a forest, gave birth, then fought off placenta-hungry bees

Eventful few days, then.

GIVING BIRTH IS definitely stressful enough without the added worries about fighting off placenta-hungry bees, right?

But this 35-year-old woman says she had to do just that after she got lost in the woods last week.

After trying and failing to take a shortcut to her parents’ house, pregnant Amber Pangborn found herself stranded in the woods without petrol and phone service.

According to Action News Now, she quickly went into labour, had a baby girl, then fought off a swarm of bees interested in her placenta:

The meat bees came out and were trying to get the placenta. I was trying to protect [my daughter] from getting stung, and I got stung trying to keep them away, but they kept going back.

Panghorn says she survived for three days in the woods on a bottle of soda, a small bottle of water and three apples she had in her car.

Eventually, fearing they would never be found, she started a forest fire with a lighter and an aerosol can.

The US Department of Forestry sent out a rescue squad, and Pangborn and her daughter were taken to hospital.

Phew. We think that little baby had enough adventure in her first three days to last her for the rest of her life, no?
